Uninstall Recon and what happens to your data
You can uninstall Recon at any time from your Shopify admin. This article explains how, what stops, and how long Recon keeps your store's data.
Uninstall Recon
- In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Apps.
- Find Recon in the list.
- Click the menu next to it, then click Uninstall.
- Confirm.
What stops at once
When you uninstall, Recon:
- Stops scanning your store and your domains.
- Stops sending summary emails and clone alerts, and stops posting in Slack.
- Stops the Shopify Flow trigger.
Clone detection stops too. Clone detection is the small piece of code Recon adds to your theme. Shopify stops loading an app's theme code when you uninstall the app, so you do not need to edit your theme.
If you were on Pro, Shopify stops billing you for Recon. Shopify handles all Recon charges.
Recon does not remove any clone. Reports you already sent stay with the companies you sent them to. They decide what happens to the clone.
What happens to your data
About 48 hours after you uninstall, Shopify asks Recon to delete your store's data. Recon then deletes everything that names or reaches a person:
- Your takedown details: your name, business name, postal address, phone and email.
- Your alert addresses, your team list and your Slack connection.
- The text of the reports you sent, because it carries your takedown details.
Recon keeps your store's history: your domains, scan results and clone cases, and when and where each report went. This record names your store and the clone sites, not a person. Recon uses it to track clones and takedown results over time.
To ask Recon to delete this history too, email support@recon.bot.
Recon does not store your customers' data, so there is no customer data to delete.
If you want your own record of your cases, save it before you uninstall. On Pro, click Export cases on the Clones page, or open a case and click Evidence pack.
Reinstall Recon
You can install Recon again from the Shopify App Store. Your cases and scan history come back, and Recon takes you through setup again.
- Within about 48 hours: your settings come back too.
- After that: add your alert email, takedown details and team again. Recon deleted them.
After you reinstall, check that clone detection is on in your theme. The setup steps show you how.
