Alerts and summary emails
Recon sends two kinds of email. The summary email tells you what changed on your store. Clone alerts tell you soon after Recon finds a clone of your store. A clone is a copy of your store on another web address. This article explains when each email comes, and how to choose where they go.
The summary email
The summary email is on every plan. It tells you what changed since the last one, and what to do about it.
Recon checks on Saturdays if there is news for you. It sends the summary only when something changed, for example:
- Recon found a new clone of your store.
- A clone you have not reported is still online. Recon reminds you once.
- A clone went offline.
- An email or trust check started to fail.
- Recon found a new lookalike domain. A lookalike domain is a web address with a name like yours.
If nothing changed, Recon does not send a summary that week.
The monthly check-in. In the first week of each month, Recon always sends a summary, even when nothing changed. It shows the full picture, so you know Recon is still watching.
The subject line tells you the news. For example:
- "1 clone of your store is live"
- "1 clone of your store is still live and not reported"
- "2 checks need your attention"
- "1 clone of your store went offline"
- "3 new domains look like yours"
- "Your monthly Recon summary: no problems found"
Clone alerts
Clone alerts are part of the Pro plan. See the plans on the Recon listing in the Shopify App Store.
When Recon finds a clone of your store, it waits about five minutes. This lets it put clones found close together into one email. Recon sends at most one clone alert per hour, so a busy day does not fill your inbox.
The subject names the clone, for example "Clone of your store found: northfell-sale.com". When Recon finds more than one, the subject gives the number, for example "3 clones of your store found". If a clone you saw before comes back on a new address, the subject starts with "A clone of your store is back".
On the Free plan, new clones go in your next summary email.
Choose how often you get the summary
- In Recon, open Settings.
- Find the Email card.
- To get the summary, select Email me a summary. To stop it, clear the checkbox.
- Next to it, choose how often:
- When something changes: a summary on the Saturdays when there is news, plus the monthly check-in.
- Once a month: the monthly check-in only.
- Click Save in the bar at the top of the page.
Turning off the summary does not stop clone alerts. On Pro, Recon still emails you when it finds a clone.
Change where alerts and summaries go
The Main address gets the summary and, on Pro, clone alerts. If you leave it blank, Recon uses the email address of your Shopify account.
- In Recon, open Settings.
- In the Email card, under Who gets alerts and summaries, click Edit.
- Type the new address. To use your Shopify account email, leave the field blank.
- Click Save in the bar at the top of the page.

On Pro, you can also send the same emails to up to 10 more people, and to Slack. See Send alerts to your team and Slack.
Stop all emails from Recon
Every email from Recon has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. If you click it, the main address stops getting summaries and clone alerts. To get them again, open Settings and select Email me a summary, then click Save.
